Teeter Hang Ups

Relieve Back Pain

Unlike surgery, mechanical traction, and other invasive forms of treatment, using a Teeter is a gentle, passive way to target pain at the source and care for all weight-bearing joints. Inversion is a natural, progressive form of traction that decompresses each joint with the same weight that compresses it while upright. To put it simply, inverted decompression targets back pain by helping to 1) rehydrate discs, 2) reduce nerve pressure, 3) realign the spine and 4) relax tense muscles. Best of all, stretching on a Teeter feels great and takes only a few minutes a day!

Rehydrate discs: Clinical studies show that inverted decompression increases the space between the vertebrae, allowing for rehydration if the soft tissue in the discs, increasing nutrients and plumping the discs for better shock absorption and flexibility.

Reduce nerve pressure: The height of the discs control the size of the passageway between each vertebrae for the nerve roots that exit the spinal column. A plump, hydrated disc allows for maximum clearance, helping to avoid pressure or painful pinching of the nerves.

Realign the spine: Decompression elongates the spine and eases muscle tension, encouraging realignment of the spine. Stretching and movement while inverted helps to facilitate relaxation, proper alignment and improved posture – Teeter’s bonus Healthy Back Routines are a helpful guide.

Relax tense muscles: Inversion helps to stimulate circulation and lymph flow, carrying waste out of sore, tense muscles. Gentle stretching and elongation of the muscles helps to ease muscle tension and stress.

Just like maintaining your dental health by brushing your teeth every day, you need to take care of your spine and joints. There is no miracle cure for back pain: pills mask the pain without addressing the source, and surgery is a risky, invasive and costly option. The Teeter Hang Ups is a natural, affordable, easy-to-use alternative you can use in your own home every day – backed by medical studies and endorsed by millions of people just like you.

Ease Stress

Stress and tension can cause pain and muscle spasms in the back, neck and shoulders, as well as headaches and other problems. Muscle tension can be aggravated by spinal misalignments, pinched or over-stimulated nerves, or toxin build-up due to poor circulation and lymph flow. Dr. John E. Sarno, of the New York Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine claims that in more than 90% of the patients that he sees for back pain, there is no structural abnormality or the ‘abnormal’ x-ray does not really explain the nature or location of the pain. Dr. Sarno explains how the tension causes back pain: The muscle tenses, reducing blood flow in the muscles of the neck, shoulders, back, or the buttocks. This allows the accumulation of waste chemicals, much the same way a long run causes leg muscle fatigue because of lactic acid build up. When the muscles goes into spasm in the lower back, it often leads you to believe (mistakenly) you have a disc problem.

A study conducted by physiotherapist L.J. Nosse1 found that EMG activity (a measure of muscle tension), declined over 35% within 10 seconds of inverting. Even at the shallow angle of 25 degrees on a Teeter, you can begin to feel the relaxing, stress-relieving benefits. Inversion can help to stimulate circulation which brings oxygen-rich blood to the muscles, and increases lymph flow to truck away toxins that build-up and cause muscle soreness.

Improve Joint Health

Decompression aids in joint lubrication by altering the pressure and suction forces within the joint, helping to stimulate the synovial fluid that nourishes the cartilage and enhances shock absorption.

Mobilization and gentle loading of ligaments can help to increase the collagen content of the tissue, which results in increased ligament strength. Strong ligaments and muscles are vital for proper joint support, and help to protect against injury. Even the U.S. Army has utilized Teeter Hang Ups EZ-Up<sup™< sup=””> Gravity Boots to mitigate joint fatigue injuries.

Increase Flexibility

Tight muscles or stiff joints create imbalances which can cause improper body mechanics and increase the risk of injury. Using a Teeter provides a natural stretch that gently elongates muscles and decompresses joints, enhancing muscle efficiency, improving mobility and increasing flexibility.

During a normal day, your fluid-filled joints and discs will be compressed and lose moisture, resulting in a temporary height loss of up to 0.5″ – 0.75″! While mostly reversed overnight, cumulative height loss over a lifetime can total 2” or more! With this loss of height comes decreased range of movement because there is less space in the joints. Inversion has been proven to increase the space between vertebrae and weight-bearing joints, reducing pressure and re-hydrating, which helps to restore shock absorption and flexibility.

Muscles adapt to bad posture. For example, slouch sitting shortens the muscles in the abdomen and lengthens those in the back. Eventually, it feels strange to sit or stand upright in good posture. Inversion helps realign the spine and elongate muscles, with many users reporting that they stand ‘taller’ and straighter after just a few minutes. With continued use, posture can be improved, which leads to better body mechanics, a more attractive figure and less back pain.

Work Out & Build Core Strength

Strong abdominals, internal and external obliques, and lower back muscles are vital for proper support of the spine. Most training activities designed to build core strength must be performed with great technical accuracy or they can injure the back.

Inverted exercises can target every core muscle without adding risky, compressive loads to the spine. Crunches or sit-ups on the Teeter are a challenging way to develop and define the core muscles. In addition, inverted squats provide a unique leg workout, strengthening the hamstrings and quads while sculpting the glutes. The bonus Healthy Back Routines include a 20+ minute class on inverted exercises you can do with your Teeter!

  1. Thanks for the information. I actually bought the Teeter a few months ago and it is awesome all. If you really want something to help you with back pain, this is it. I use to hurt everyday. Now, I never do. I do a few minutes of my Teeter Hang Ups in the morning and I’m as good as gold and ready to go.
