Our great medical technology shows us that we can help our heart stay healthy and many heart related diseases can be avoided. Perhaps, some just don’t care. The point, you can’t ignore your heart. We have a great list of heart healthy foods and tips to help you get started. We’re not asking you to change your lifestyle, we only note that you consider what we have to say. In the end, it’s going to benefit you and your heart.

Heart Healthy Foods

The great thing about heart healthy foods is the fact that there’s plenty of them to choose from. Even better, all of these heart healthy foods have special benefits and supports different areas of the heart. When it coms to heart healthy foods, variety is the key. I know a lot of different people try to find that one special heart healthy food to take care of the heart needs. As I said earlier though, these heart healthy foods in this list have special abilities. If you mix in a good variety of heart healthy foods, you’ll be able to provide more benefits to various parts of the heart rather then concentrating on just one area of the heart. Let’s get started.

Almonds

Almonds have commonly been called one of the healthiest foods in the world. Almonds have several great benefits beyond health heart but we’ll discuss why almonds are great for the heart. Almonds are high in monounsaturated fats, the same type of health-promoting fats as found in olive oil, which have been associated with reducing the risk of heart disease. Almonds are known to lower LCD cholesterol also. LDL is the form of cholesterol that has been linked to both atherosclerosis and heart disease. Almonds also contain Vitamin E. Almonds also contain magnesium, which benefits your arteries and veins. Almonds may also help keep your blood pressure at a normal level due to potassium found in almonds.

Salmon

Salmon is also considered to be one of the leading heart healthy foods in the world. Just like almonds, salmon has several great benefits for your heart and health. Salmon is extremely rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 has been known and proven to effectively reduce blood pressure and keep clotting at bay. Studies have proven that just two servings of salmon a week can reduce your risk for a heart attack up to 33 percent. You do want to choose wild salmon over farm grown salmon to ensure you only receive the natural benefits of salmon. Salmon is also known to contain small bioactive protein molecules, known as “bioactive peptides,” which may provide beneficial support for joint cartilage, insulin effectiveness and control of inflammation in the digestive tract. Salmon is also high in vitamin B12 and vitamin D.

Black Beans

Black beans are another food that has many benefits to the heart. Black beans are a superb source of the cholesterol-lowering dietary fiber that benefits your cardiovascular health. One cup of black beans will supply nearly three-quarters of your daily value for dietary fiber. Black beans are also contain antioxidants known as anthocyanins that can help protect you from cancer. These antioxidants are also found in cranberries. Black beans are also great for digestive health and colon health. Black beans, just as almonds, contain magnesium which is beneficial to your veins and arteries. Black beans also contain folate and niacin, both beneficial to the heart.

Oatmeal/Oats

Oatmeal is also considered to be one of the top heart healthy foods in the world. Oatmeal is well documented for being a healthy heart food and so much more. To be honest, even I was surprised when I saw all the health benefits of oats. Oats have been known to lower LCL cholesterol, which is bad cholesterol. Studies have also shown that oats can help you keep a healthy blood pressure level. Both low and high blood pressure is bad for the heart, oats are a natural blood pressure stabilizer. Researchers also proved that oats can possibly reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes. Oats have been known to help digestion, the immune system and help with controlling your appetite. It’s worth noting that bland oatmeal is not a favorite among most people. Try adding heart healthy fruits to your oatmeal, such as blueberries.

Broccoli

Broccoli is a very healthy vegetable that has heart benefits and much more. Broccoli contains sulforaphane, which encourages production  of enzymes that protect the blood vessels, and reduces the number of molecules  that cause cell damage.  This is known as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). Broccoli may also help with damaged blood vessels. Sulforaphane in broccoli may also significantly improve your blood pressure and kidney function as well. Broccoli has been shown to kill cancer stem cells, which may just reduce your risk of cancer. Sulforaphane is the key ingredient that makes it all possible. For those of you that suffer from arthritis, broccoli can even help by protecting your cartilage. Broccoli is also great for your immune system and is rich in healthy nutrients.

Walnuts

Walnuts are another type of nut that is extremely beneficial to your heart health. Walnuts are rich in antioxidants and high quality antioxidants. Antioxidants can protect cells against damage caused by harmful molecules known as “free radicals.” The damage can play a role in heart disease and other health conditions. Walnuts are also great for men and women who suffer from high cholesterol. Walnuts are also great for people losing weight. You can go wrong with walnuts, almonds also as you learned earlier. Both support the heart in a healthy way.

Nuts are very healthy and we should note that there’s several different types you can use. Below, you’ll find more nuts that are very beneficial to your health.

  • Brazil Nuts
  • Cashews
  • Hazelnuts
  • Macadamia Nuts
  • Pecans

I believe combining all of these heart healthy foods in your diet will have a much bigger impact on your heart health and general well-being. These are just a few of the heart healthy foods out there. There’s plenty more and we’ll continue to add to this list, so be sure to check back.

5 Great Tips For A Healthy Heart

Great Tips For A Healthy HeartI don’t have to preach to you on how important your heart is. We all know the value of the heart and the fact that we can’t live without it. The heart is an amazing creation, perfectly designed to give us all life. The heart pumps blood to the entire body and pumps between 4.7-5.7 liters of blood per minute. If we are lucky to live to old age, our heart will have beat millions of time. Without the heart, life is not possible. Just like our need of air, we need the heart in order to live.

Since the heart is so important, all of us should have a need to protect the heart from harm. The heart is vulnerable to disease just like the rest of our organs. These events can happen naturally or we can actually create them. In this article, we’re going to explore the best 5 tips for a healthy heart. Let’s get started!

Exercise

Exercise has so many great benefits, we had to list it as our top heart healthy tip. Not only is exercise good for the heart, specific types of exercises are good for different parts of our heart. Let’s take dance for an example. Although dance isn’t technically exercise, it really is. Dancing will increase your heart rate and it can help you burn calories. Both are great for you. What about Yoga? Technically again, you may feel Yoga is or not exercise. Either way, Yoga is great for the heart because it reduces stress. Yoga is also good for your heart rate variability or known as (HRV). Running is a great workout for the heart. It increase blood pressure and your heart rate, not to mention all the other benefits to your body. If you want a healthy heart, exercise is crucial. Exercise benefits the heart and the entire body, make it a part of your normal routine.

Watching Your Levels

How long has it been since you have your last checkup with your doctor? If it’s been a year or more, you may want to schedule that checkup. Look, the heart isn’t to play with, you should be focused on knowing your blood pressure, blood sugars, cholesterol and triglycerides. If you haven’t been monitoring all of them, you need to start. Medical technology has come a long way and all of these can be controlled. You can live a healthy life and help your heart be healthy. I know a lot of my patients wait weeks and even months to see a doctor. If you’re having chest pains, especially prolong chest pains, get to the doctor. The longer left untreated, you can cause your heart to damage or worse. You know how important your heart is, treat it that way and keep up with watching your levels.

Eat Plenty Of Nuts

Are you nuts? Eating nuts of course. Nuts actually have several great benefits to the body and many of them are associated to the heart. Studies and test have proven that nuts can lower the risk for cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease. Nuts can also help you lower your bad cholesterol. Some feel that nuts can also lower the risk for cancer. Walnuts, pecans, almonds and cashews are all great for you. Almonds are great for those who have bad blood sugar and it drops LDL cholesterol, which is bad cholesterol. Cashews are great for thinking and your brain. Their also rich in iron and zinc, both needed in your body. Pecans are great for heart health. It’s possible that they prevent plaque. Macadamia nuts are lower bad cholesterol and blood pressure. If nuts are not part of your normal diet, be sure to make get them in your diet.

Cut The Fats

You probably already know that fats are bad for you. If you’re not keeping an eye on your fat intake, it’s time to start doing so. Saturated fats is one of the worse fats you can intake. For years, it was believed that cutting saturated fats was all that you needed. When we think of saturated fats, we’re thinking of butter, red meats and cheese. Saturated fats cause our arteries to clog and causes heart attacks. With medical advancements, we know that cholesterol plays a big role in this also. There’s good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. The big issue is the fact that bad cholesterol greatly outweighs good cholesterol. Here’s a great study on fats that you should read. They ran several different studies and the results are trust worthy.

Reducing Stress

As medical testing and technology has grew, we now see how dangerous stress is to the heart. Even so, at this day and age, many people don’t realize the power of living a stress free life. Is it even possible to live stress free? I truly doubt it but it’s not impossible. Just having the ability to reduce your stress by a few percent can help you live a longer life and keep your heart healthy. We all have problems, granted some more then others. Everyone has different ways to release stress, some good healthy manners and others not so much. You have to find healthy ways to reduce your stress. It could be a walk, running, driving the long way home or playing basketball. Personally, I prefer Yoga. Here’s a great Yoga video to help you get started.

Natural Knee Pain Treatments

Do You Suffer From Knee Pain?

Knee Pain TreatmentsKnee pain is one of the most common complaints that we see among our patients next to back pain. The knees serve a variety of different purposes, from support to mobility. Knee pain can be caused by many different elements. The knees rely on a number of structures that include the bones, ligaments, tendons and cartilage to perform all the task we ask of. Damage to anyone of these areas can cause knee pain.

Just as with most injuries, knee injuries often become inflamed which leads to more pain. The inflammation in your knee has to be controlled and reversed before your pain can reside. If you’ve injured your knee, it’s probably inflamed. You need to start tacking the inflammation first to control the pain in your knees. With knee injuries, it’s important to understand the value of resting your knees. At this point of your knee injury, mobility is the least important. You want to make sure you rest your knee for prolong periods at a time.

Ice is going to play a vital role in controlling your knee pain. Since inflammation causes pain, we want to apply ice to the knee. Ice is going to reduce the swelling and inflammation in your knee. As for duration, I recommend icing your knee 2-3 times a day, no longer then 30 minutes. Make sure you stay with the ice and don’t switch back and forth from ice to hot water. This pain treatment method can actually make your knee pain worse, so make sure you stick with the ice.

Knee pain can also be caused by arthritis. There’s a variety of different types of arthritis that can affect the knees. Rheumatoid arthritis is a connective tissue diseases of the whole body that affects many joints often including the knee. People who have this disease often have family members who suffer from it as well. Crystalline arthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis are two other types of arthritis that can cause pain in the knees.

Now, another way to manage your knee pain is with compression techniques. I want you to take a wrap or bandage and wrap it around your knee. This can help you reduce your pain, increase mobility and help control inflammation. Over the counter medications can also help you with pain and inflammation. I would suggest Motrin because it will help your pain and inflammation all at once.

Elevating your knee is another great idea to relieve knee pain. It’s recommended that you elevate your knee higher then your heart level. You should be resting your leg as much as possible anyway. By doing so, this will help relieve your knee pain and also inflammation. It’s quite possible that you may feel numbness or tingling in your legs when you’re elevating your knees, just know that this is a normal reaction to have. The key is to drain all fluids back into circulation.

Now, if you continue to experience knee pain or you can’t put weight on your knee, you’re going to want to go to the doctor. The body is fragile and it doesn’t take much for the knee to be injured. Remember what we walked about earlier, the knees rely on a number of structures that include the bones, ligaments, tendons and cartilage. Any injury to these areas can cause severe knee pain and injuries that may require surgery to fix. You don’t want to wait too long because if left untreated, your injury can get worse. If your knee or leg looks deformed in any way, we recommend that you go to the emergency room as soon as possible. These types of injuries can also cause the need for knee joint replacements.

If you have had prolong knee pain, you may want to consider our pain relief treatment. We’ve helped thousands of men and women relieve and end their pain for good. Take the time to review all our different pain relief treatments as we have several to choose from. Knee pain can be tricky, especially if you haven’t had a recent injury or trauma to the knee. If you have any questions about your knee pain or your options, be sure to leave me a message. I’d be glad to help you in any way that I can. Remember, rest, ice compression and elevation.
