What Is Spinal Spondylosis

What Is Spinal Spondylosis

One thing that can cause back pain is spinal spondylosis. Spondylosis refers to degeneration of the spine. The term can be used to describe degeneration in the back, lower back and the middle back. More commonly, the term spondylosis is used to describe osteoarthritis of the spine, but it is also commonly used to describe any manner of spinal degeneration.  If this condition occurs in the zygapophysial joints, it can be considered facet syndrome. If severe, it may cause pressure on nerve roots with subsequent sensory and/or motor disturbances, such as pain, paresthesia, or muscle weakness in the limbs.

Lumbar Spondylosis-Lower Back

Thoracic Spondylosis-Middle Back

As with many other terms to describe spinal problems, spondylosis is more of a descriptive term than it is a diagnosis. Literally it can be translated to mean that one has both pain and spine degeneration, regardless of what is causing the pain or where the degeneration is occurring.

Spinal spondylosis can refer to both degenerative disc or osteoarthritis. If spinal spondylosis is found on the facet joints, we call this osteoarthritis. If it is found on the disc, we call this degenerative disc.

Spondylosis Diagnoses

There’s a number of different ways that spondylosis can be diagnosed. Your initial exam from your doctor can give the physician an idea of your issues, a physical exam should be performed. Your doctor may rotate your head and push it down to see if you have pain in the shoulders and neck. Of course, this points to cervical spondylosis. Other physical exams can pinpoint lumbar and thoracic spondylosis. If your condition is bad, you may be required to take a MRI or CT scan.

Spondylosis Treatments

Spondylosis is often treated in a number of different ways, alternative medicine being one of the most common spondylosis treatments. Spondylosis can be treated with exercise and physical therapy, even massage. Those who suffer from spinal spondylosis may find pan relief in these manners. Acupuncture could be another option as well as Yoga. In some cases, surgery may be required in patients that have continued pain and worsening symptoms.

One spondylosis treatment that we highly recommend is the Doctor’s Back Pain Systems. Dr. Jason Hurst developed this back pain system years ago and it has already helped thousands. Dr. Hurst’s spondylosis treatment is effective.
